Strategy

Spellbender is best used in decks that consist mostly of spells and a few very large creatures. Reasoning is you want the spell to protect as valuable a target as possible, having it deflect spells from a 2 mana Loot Hoarder would waste the 3 mana you invested, since that could have been a better minion on the board. The most consistent way to get value from this secret is to control the board with Mage`s various spells and putting it up the turn before you plan on playing a big creature like Alexstrasza or Archmage Antonidas. This way you can guarantee it won`t be wasted on your own low cost creatures and minimize the chances it`ll intercept spells that your opponent targets on his own creatures.

Metagame:

In the current Patch 1.0.0.4458 Mage secrets beyond Ice Block are rarely used competitively as they`re considered too slow and inconsistent. Spending 3 mana on a card that doesn`t affect the board can spell doom against the popular weapon and minion based charge decks.
