One of the most critical distinctions between sets is whether its cards are usable in Standard format Standard format, or Standard, is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Wild format. Standard format is intended to feature a fresher and more focused Hearthstone experience, with a limited pool of cards hearthstone games, or only in Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone .

Be that as it may, card sets can be divided into several more specific categories:

The sets could alternatively be categorized by the way players obtain its cards:

For the purposes of the wiki, further categories can be realized for uncollectible cards.

  • Boss cards are used to categorize cards used by bosses. While not collectible by players, they are encountered during play in Adventures and Tavern Brawls.
  • Tavern Brawl cards are used to categorize cards used exclusively in Tavern Brawl decks. These are not collectible and are not featured outside of Tavern Brawl.

Basic

See also: Basic card list

Basic is a large, freely available card set, with 150 cards, 133 of which are collectible. Many Basic cards are neutral, available to heroes of any class. There are also 10 Basic cards exclusive to each class. Miscellaneous cards such as The Coin are also considered Basic cards. Because of the nature of the game system, Hero Powers and even heroes themselves are also categorized as Basic cards, but are not counted in this total.

Roughly half of all Basic cards are of free rarity, and half common. There are no Basic cards above common rarity. All collectible free cards are Basic cards.

All neutral Basic cards are automatically included in players` collections. Half of all class-specific Basic cards are free and therefore known by heroes as soon as they are unlocked; the other half are common, and are gained by advancing those heroes in level. A new Basic card is granted for each of the first two levels reached, with the last Basic cards granted upon reaching level 10. All Basic cards are granted in pairs, enabling players to immediately include two of them in their deck if they so desire. Basic cards are uncraftable The uncraftable quality Uncraftable (previously called soulbound) is a card quality found on certain cards. Uncraftable cards cannot be crafted or disenchanted. Uncraftable quality is mostly determined by card set, and in some cases differs hearthstone and therefore cannot be crafted or disenchanted.

A golden version of each Basic card can be obtained by leveling a specific class of hero to a certain level. Raising a hero of the correct class to the required level will `unlock` the card, granting the player two of the golden version of that card. Like the plain versions, golden versions cannot be crafted or disenchanted. While all class-specific golden Basic cards require a hero of the corresponding class to unlock, the required class for neutral cards varies. Some neutral cards can be obtained by leveling one of two possible classes.

Basic cards lack the gem that normally indicates card rarity, whereas no other card set has any effect on the gem. This leads to a common misconception that all Basic cards are of "free" rarity, whereas half of all Basic cards are in fact common based on game data. In the case of Basic class cards, the free rarity corresponds to cards that are available as soon as their class is unlocked. For Basic neutral cards, the free rarity is used on cards available to the player in the tutorial, with the exception of Goldshire Footman which has common rarity instead.

The developers consider it important to keep cards from the Basic set relatively simple and their functions easy to understand. This allows newer players to get to grips with the game`s mechanics before being forced to grasp the subtleties of cards in the other sets. In at least one case this has caused the developers to significantly change the function of a card in development, due to new players finding the function`s subtleties too confusing.

It featuresSpecial attraction 135 collectible class cards (15 for each class) and 110 collectible neutral cards. Classic cards can be recognised by the distinctive "hearthstone swirl" behind the card text, not found on other cards.

As the largest and more advanced of the two "permanent" sets included in Standard format Standard format, or Standard, is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Wild format. Standard format is intended to feature a fresher and more focused Hearthstone experience, with a limited pool of cards hearthstone , Classic cards frequently feature as core cards in successful decks, and the developers constantly monitor the set`s power to ensure it does not form too large a proportion of decklists, thus causing the meta to become excessively stale. As of early 2017 the Classic set is "the most powerful set by a wide margin".

Classic cards may be common, rare, epic or legendary.

Regular and golden Classic cards can be obtained in three ways:

Golden Classic cards can also be obtained through the Highest Rank Bonus chest.

Expansion cards

Card sets based on expansions are the largest sets after Classic and sometimes Basic, usually bringing around 130-150 new collectible Collectible cards are cards which are available for players to collect and use in their decks. The majority of all playable cards are collectible cards. Players can view their collectible card collection through the collection cards.

Cards from Standard format Standard format, or Standard, is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Wild format. Standard format is intended to feature a fresher and more focused Hearthstone experience, with a limited pool of cards hearthstone expansions can be obtained through the same means as Classic cards:

Cards from Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone expansions were once obtainable the same way, but now can only be obtained through crafting. Be that as it may, there are plans to make Wild-exclusive cards easier for players to obtain in the future. Neither individual cards nor card packs are offered as rewards in the Arena, nor do they feature in the Highest Rank Bonus chest. Card packs for Wild format expansions are not available in the shop, although any card packs already obtained can still be opened as usual. (See also Wild format#Availability.)

For information on specific expansion sets, see expansion pages, e.g., Whispers of the Old Gods  "Now I ve got a tale to tell you... of the ones from long ago. There s an evil that s been dreaming, but now it s softly screaming! From the darkness their power will grow. Their voices are hearthstone .

Adventure cards

See more: Adventure

Card sets based on adventures are smaller than expansion sets, usually bringing around 30-45 new collectible cards. Four adventures exist in total:

Cards from Standard format Standard format, or Standard, is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Wild format. Standard format is intended to feature a fresher and more focused Hearthstone experience, with a limited pool of cards hearthstone adventures can only be obtained through defeating their corresponding adventure wing, which will grant regular copies of the card. Once the player has obtained the regular version, they can then be able to craft and disenchant both the regular and golden versions of that card.

Cards from Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone adventures can still be obtained through defeating adventure wings, but can now be crafted and disenchanted regardless of whether the corresponding adventure wing was defeated or not. Since Wild format adventures are not available in the shop, the gained ability to craft these cards, introduced with the beginning of Standard, allows players who did not purchase the adventure during its Standard year to still obtain these cards.

Hall of Fame is a special Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone card set, created on Apr. 4, 2017 with the start of the Year of the Mammoth. The set contains 10 collectible cards.

As of Feb. 2017, all cards inducted into the Hall of Fame are to be cards which have previously belonged to the Classic, Reward, and Promo sets. Problematic, frequently-played, and design-hindering cards are moved to the Hall of Fame to remove them from Standard format. Cards were also moved to the Hall of Fame to close off the Reward and Promo sets. The developers state that, in the future, they will more likely move problematic Classic cards to the Hall of Fame, whereas problematic cards from other sets will be nerfed instead.

According to Yong Woo, if a metagame largely consists of decks with too similar cores and ideas, the development team will consider making changes to problematic cards found in such decks. Moving problematic cards into the Hall of Fame is one way in which a fresh meta can be ensured; be that as it may, it is not something that the designers plan to do on a regular basis.

Being Wild format cards, Hall of Fame cards can only be obtained through crafting. When cards are moved to the Hall of Fame set, they will be removed from their previous sets, and will no longer appear in card packs or be offered as rewards in the Arena A video explaining the Arena in Hearthstone made by the Curse Gamepedia YouTube Channel. The Arena is a game mode where players compete against each other using specially constructed decks to earn substantial rewards. It hearthstone , Highest Rank Bonus chest, or Heroic Tavern Brawl.

All Hall of Fame cards are pictured below. Full dust refunds were granted on Apr. 6th 2017 for those cards that moved from the Classic set (and not the Reward or Promo set) to the Hall of Fame set, up to the maximum usable number of copies owned, preferring golden copies over regular copies. For details on how the past dust refund worked, please see Standard format#Hall of Fame.

Reward

⃂This section contains information exclusive to Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone .

Reward cards were moved to the Hall of Fame set on Apr. 4, 2017 with the start of the Year of the Mammoth, effectively closing the Reward set. Reward cards were formerly two cards, Old Murk-Eye and Captain`s Parrot, both of which were originally earned through completing certain unique quests.

  • Old Murk-Eye was formerly rewarded for free upon collecting at least one of every Murloc in the Basic and Classic sets. Golden Old Murk-Eye was rewarded for free upon collecting at least one of every golden version of those cards.
  • Captain`s Parrot was formerly rewarded for free upon collecting at least one of every Pirate in the Basic and Classic sets. Golden Captain`s Parrot was rewarded for free upon collecting at least one of every golden version of those cards.

The associated quests have since been removed, and Reward cards are now obtained through regular crafting, like all Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone cards. For a list of associated removed quests, see Quest#Removed.

Promo

⃂This section contains information exclusive to Wild format Wild format or Wild is one of Hearthstone s two game formats, the other being Standard format. Wild format appears in game modes in which players are allowed to play decks without the deck restrictions of hearthstone .

Promo or Promotion cards were moved to the Hall of Fame set on Apr. 4, 2017 with the start of the Year of the Mammoth, effectively closing the Promo set. Promo cards were special cards awarded as part of specific Blizzard promotions. The Promo set featured 11 cards, 2 of which are collectible, namely Gelbin Mekkatorque and Elite Tauren Chieftain.

Golden Promo cards were formerly available to be obtained as part of their corresponding promotions; it is no longer possible to obtain these golden cards. Following their promotion periods, regular versions of these cards were uncraftable, but were later made available for crafting with the arrival of Standard. Golden Promo cards cannot be disenchanted, but regular versions can. For the removed promotional quests that offered golden Promo cards, see Quest#No longer attainable.

  • Golden Gelbin Mekkatorque was offered as a reward for beta testers who helped test the in-game store by making a real-money transaction during the game`s beta test.
  • Golden Elite Tauren Chieftain was available exclusively as a reward for purchasing a ticket to Blizzcon 2013.

Promo cards were created with a design in mind that they offered no substantial advantage to the owner, since the cards were exclusive and of limited availability. Rather, the cards were designed to bring more of an entertainment and RNG aspect into the game. This prevented Promo cards from becoming "must-have" cards for higher-level play.

Promo cards were notable for being the only card set not available in Arena A video explaining the Arena in Hearthstone made by the Curse Gamepedia YouTube Channel. The Arena is a game mode where players compete against each other using specially constructed decks to earn substantial rewards. It hearthstone picks.

Basic

Basic cards are cards that show as Basic when you right-click them in "My Collection". The basic card set consists of cards that are obtainable through leveling your hero/class and all these cards are Soulbound meaning they cannot be disenchanted nor crafted. Basic cards can be distuinguished from Expert cards because all Basic cards are also of Rarity Free and thus has no rarity gem in the middle of the card. All Basic cards are Soulbound, meaning that they can not be disenchanted. The converse, however, is not true; not all Soulbound cards are Basic, as all the cards in the Reward Card Set are also Soulbound.

For list of Basic cards, see List of Basic Cards.

Classic

The Classic card set consists of cards that are obtainable through buying Classic Card Packs or Crafting. All Classic cards have been available from the launch of Hearthstone. This set does not include cards that were added later, such as at the Curse of Naxxramas event. All Classic cards are Common, Rare, Epic or Legendary, while the converse is not true; not all of the cards of those rarities belong to the Classic Card set.

Before the Goblins vs Gnomes expansion Classic set was known as Expert set.

The classic set contains 302 cards, 245 which are collectable, 135 collectable class cards (15 for each class) and 110 collectable neutral.

For list of Classic cards, see List of Classic Cards.

Reward

Reward Cards could conceivably be of any Rarity, but at present, there are only two cards in this set and these are of Epic and Legendary Rarity. All Reward cards are Soulbound, meaning that they can not be disenchanted.

For list of Reward cards, see List of Reward Cards.

Promo

The promo set is cards that are given out for special (out-of-game) events such as spending real money in the Store during the Beta. These cards are Soulbound, meaning that they cannot be disenchanted.

For list of Promo cards, see List of Promo Cards.

Naxxramas

The Naxxramas set consists of 30 cards that were introduced through the Curse of Naxxramas adventure. All of the cards in this set are Soulbound and obtainable only by defeating the Curse of Naxxramas challenges. In the Arena mode however these cards are available to all players regardless of progress in the Naxxramas challenges.

For list of Naxxramas cards see list of Naxxramas Cards.

The Blackrock Mountain set consists of 31 cards that were introduced through the Blackrock Mountain adventure. All of the cards in this set are Soulbound and obtainable only by defeating the Blackrock Mountain challenges. The Grand Tournament

The Grand Tournament, second expansion to Hearthstone contains 132 new cards. Cards in the Grand Tournament set become playable on 24th of August 2015.

For the list of all The Grand Tournament cards see list of The Grand Tournament Cards.

League of Explorers

League of Explorers is the third Hearthstone Adventure. Similarly to its predecessors the cards of the League of Explorers card set are only available through defeating the challenges in the four wings. All the cards are available in the Arena mode regardless of whether player has opened the wings of the Adventure. There are in total 43 new cards, five of which are Legendary.

Whispers of the Old Gods

Whispers of the Old Gods is the third full expansion set of Hearthstone. Released on April 26th 2016 it introduced 134 new cards to the game.

One Night in Karazhan

The fourth Hearthstone Adventure, One Night in Karazhan, features 45 new cards and a new game board. As typical for the single player Adventures, these cards can only be obtained by completing the four wings of challenges. In the Arena mode these cards are available for every player regardless of their progress in the Adventure.

Mission

Mission cards consists of all cards that can not be used by players, such as special minions or spells used by the heroes in the tutorial. They could conceivably be of any Rarity, but at the moment, they are all of rarity Free.

For a list of all Mission cards, see List of Mission cards.

Cheat

The Cheat set is mentioned only in 3rd party reports of patch changes from the Alpha version. It consists of three cards Destory Hero Powersic, Hand to Deck and Mill 30, all of which were widely overpowered. It is inconceivable that any player will ever get to use these.
